This material helps people who know something of the Christian Year, yet have questions about it, and wonder what the benefits might be of considering it more seriously.

This primer on the Christian year was written by Rev. Howard Vanderwell, a retired Christian Reformed pastor who serves on the staff of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship. He wrote this material primarily for people who know something of the Christian Year, yet have questions about it, and wonder what the benefits might be of considering it more seriously. Recognizing that those who regularly observe the Christian Year are convinced there are great faith-forming benefits for the worship life of the congregation, Vanderwell describes the Christian Year in an accessible way. As a Reformed pastor, he includes some examples from his own tradition, but the primer will be valuable to those in any Christian tradition.
