1 Corinthians 10:1–13

Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, with spoken solos

TENOR SOLO: For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact,

ALL: brothers and sisters,

TENOR: that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.

TENOR and ALTO: They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea

ALTO: They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink;

ALTO and SOPRANO: for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them,

ALL: and that rock was Christ

BASS: Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them;

BASS and SOPRANO: their bodies were scattered [repeat in a scattered way]

SOPRANO: in the wilderness.

SOPRANO SOLO: Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.

SOPRANO: Do not be idolaters

SOPRANO SOLO: as some of them were; as it is written:

TENOR and ALTO: The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.

ALTO: We should not commit sexual immorality,

ALTO SOLO: as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.

TENOR: We should not test Christ,

TENOR SOLO: as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.

BASS: And do not grumble,

BASS SOLO: as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.

ALTO SOLO: These things happened to them as examples

ALTO: and were written down as warnings for us,

ALTO SOLO: on whom the culmination of the ages has come.

BASS SOLO: So, if you think you are standing firm,

ALL: be careful that you don’t fall!

TENOR: No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humankind.

ALL: And God is faithful;

SOPRANO and BASS: God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

SOPRANO SOLO: But when you are tempted,

ALL: God will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
The Word of the Lord!

CONGREGATION: Thanks be to God!
