A slideshow of images from the 2012 Calvin Symposium on Worship, held January 26-28, 2012. The annual Calvin Symposium on Worship is an annual, three-day ecumenical conference that brings together a wide audience of pastors, worship leaders and planners, artists, musicians, scholars, students, and other interested worshipers. This year, the symposium explored praying and worshiping through the Psalms.

To encourage active participation in the rhythms of worship (gathering, thanksgiving, response, and transformation) through weekly meals, rituals of gratitude, testimonies, and exploration of varied ways to live out faith in daily life.

To use Vertical Habits to disciple young adults with developmental disabilities, and to help churches break down barriers to the full, conscious, active participation of those young adults in worship.

To recruit and train a core of ecumenical colleagues for leadership of a Lenten catechetical study in their congregations that will culminate in an Easter Vigil service planned with the participation of the catechumens.

To offer a year-long guided exploration of the book of Psalms through workshops in dance, public reading of Scripture, theater, movement, painting, sculpture, photography and memorization that will bridge racial, generational and socio-economic obstacles in a diverse and multiethnic community. 

To partner with local congregations by offering “hands-on” experiences in the visual arts as a means for artists and congregations to study and respond to the Creation Psalms.

To develop resources for the four parts of the Episcopal Eucharist service, four activity sessions for young people and a Vacation Bible School program for ages 6 through 12 around the Vertical Habits themes, focusing on how these themes are aspects of a healthy relationship with God.

To explore how particular aspects of liturgy and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper connect with seasons of the church year through a series of worship services that condenses the entire church calendar into an eight week series with the Lord’s Supper celebrated each week to emphasize the various themes with special attention given to the involvement of children through leadership, visual arts, and dance.

To explore new music, dance and drama that will deepen worship and bridge racial, cultural and generational divides to promote unity among people in the congregation who represent 40 different countries and meet in several locations.

To help students develop spiritual formation practices and build Christian community by mentoring student leaders and creating a weekly worship opportunity focused on prayer and lectio divina scripture study.
