Scott Vanden Berg

Scott Vanden Berg has dedicated his professional life to engaging musicians of all ages in passionate music-making and to cultivating a vibrant arts community through schools, churches, and community ensembles. He believes that creating musical beauty is a gift, can bring people together in meaningful community, and can lead us to a deeper understanding of our neighbors and ourselves. Vanden Berg is a dynamic, highly skilled director recognized for excellence in musical leadership. With more than twenty-five years in music education, he has been the director of instrumental music at Holland Christian High School in Holland, Michigan, since 2006. In 2014, he was awarded the John P. Varineau Outstanding Music Educator Award by the Grand Rapids Symphony. His orchestras and bands have both been chosen to perform at the Michigan Music Conference. A native of Iowa, Vanden Berg earned a bachelor’s in music education from Dordt College and a Master of Music in orchestral conducting from California State University, Long Beach. In addition to his work in education, Vanden Berg is the music director of the Calvin Community Symphony, the Holland American Legion Band, the 14th Street Christian Reformed Church Choir and Orchestra, and the Central Wesleyan Church Orchestra. He is the founder and director of the Holland Bach Society and enjoys serving as a guest conductor and clinician for schools and music festivals around the country. Scott lives in Holland, Michigan, with his wife, Susan, and their three children: Ella, Abram, and Charlotte.
