Ryan Turnbull

Having grown up on a cattle ranch in western Manitoba, Ryan Turnbull has developed a deep interest in the intersections of theology, decolonization, ecology, place, and friendship. You can find him either discussing these topics in a café or cycling around town with his wife, Rachel.

Ryan holds a BA and an MA in Theology from Providence University College and Theological Seminary. In December 2023, he successfully defended his PhD in Theology and Religion at the University of Birmingham. His dissertation, titled Haunted and Held: A Christian Theology of Place, explores the theological significance of place and belonging.

Ryan is currently a Visiting Fellow at St John’s College and serves as the Diocesan Discipleship Developer for the Diocese of Rupert’s Land.

In addition to his work with the diocese, Ryan serves on the executive of the Canadian Theological Society and teaches theology as an adjunct instructor at several universities and seminaries across Canada.
