André Knevel

André Knevel was born in Bussum, the Netherlands. He studied organ under Rutger Van Mazijk, Willem Hendrik Zwart, and Dr. J. Van Stokkum. In 1975, he immigrated to Canada to be married. His studies in organ performance and church music were completed with Dr. John Tuttle at the University of Toronto.

Knevel gives many recitals throughout Canada, the US, and the Netherlands and has toured in South Africa, Germany, Romania, Czechia, Finland, Poland, and Russia. Just before the pandemic, he gave a solo organ performance at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Knevel has been invited to give a recital at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, in 2027.

In 2025 he received the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of “sharing his extraordinary musical talents across Canada and around the world . . . and his remarkable contribution to the arts and our city of St. Catharines,” according to a statement from Member of Provincial Parliament Jennie Stevens.

Over the years, Knevel has recorded many CDs of solo performances as well as with choirs and a variety of other instruments. Many of his improvisations and works have been published as sheet music.

Ultimately, he desires that his music may be to the glory of the Lord.
