In this interactive session, participants will sing selected hymns from this recently published hymnal that are related to various topics in the seminar “African American Religious Autobiography.”

Join us for a night of learning and song with Dr. James Abbington. Leading from the piano, Dr. Abbington will explore a range of hymns from One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism: An African American Ecumenical Hymnal, with specific emphasis on the current times. In addition, some instruction will be given for unique performance practices of the specific hymns.   

This presentation, which takes place during our week-long seminar “African American Religious Autobiography,” is free and open to the public. No registration is required. 

Dr. James Abbington is Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship at Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and adjunct professor of Church Music at Morehouse College in Atlanta. He is the Executive Editor of the African American Church Music Series published by GIA Publications and was recently re-appointed Director of Music for the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. Abbington has a broad range of research interests, including music and worship in the Christian church, African-American sacred folk music, organ, choral music, and ethnomusicology. He is the author of numerous books, articles, publications, and choral recordings of African-American sacred music, and is in constant demand as an organist, lecturer, clinician, choral conductor, consultant, and scholar.
