A Presentation by Dr. Michael W. Higgins.
Thomas Merton (1915 – 1968) and Henri Nouwen (1932 – 1996) are two of the 20th century’s most important and articulate Christian voices. Both had a remarkable gift for communicating with others and both have left a legacy of published works that continue to have a profound impact on Christians around the world. Join Dr. Michael Higgins as he explores Merton and Nouwen’s encounter with one another and their relationship rooted in common sources, shared interests, acute crises, and effective witness in a time of turmoil and chaos. Thomas Merton and Henri Nouwen continue to be the principal architects of our spiritual wisdom.
Dr. Michael W. Higgins is vice-president for Mission and Catholic Identity at Sacred Heart University, past president of St. Jerome's University in Ontario and St. Thomas University in New Brunswick, a columnist, editor, radio documentarist, and television commentator. He is the author and co-author of numerous books, including bestsellers Power and Peril: The Catholic Church at the Crossroads; Stalking the Holy: In Pursuit of Saint-Making; Genius Born of Anguish-the Life and Legacy of Henri Nouwen; and Thomas Merton: Faithful Visionary.
This presentation is in preparation and recognition of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Merton on January 31, 2015.
