Paul Louis Metzger
Paul Louis Metzger, PhD, is professor of Christian theology and theology of culture at Multnomah University & Seminary, Portland, Oregon. He is also the director of The Institute for Cultural Engagement: New Wine, New Wineskins. Metzger is the author of numerous works, including Setting the Spiritual Clock: Sacred Time Breaking Through the Secular Eclipse (Cascade, 2020), The Word of Christ and the World of Culture: Sacred and Secular through the Theology of Karl Barth (Eerdmans, 2003), Consuming Jesus: Beyond Race and Class Divisions in a Consumer Church (Eerdmans, 2007), Connecting Christ: How to Discuss Jesus in a World of Diverse Paths (Thomas Nelson, 2012), and most recently More Than Things: A Personalist Ethics for a Throwaway Culture (IVP Academic, 2023). A second edition of his book Evangelical Zen: A Christian’s Spiritual Travels with a Buddhist Friend is forthcoming. Paul relishes the opportunity to engage in liminal spaces, including the interface of spirituality and secularity along with multifaith discourse. Metzger is married to Mariko. They have two children, Christopher and Julianne, and one grandchild, Jaylah.
