Honduras is a nation with total religious freedom. One may practice whatever religion he or she desires. However, the vast majority of Hondurans would consider themselves Christian. Within Christianity in Honduras, there is a strong distinction between being "Catholic" and "Evangelical," which are the terms used in Honduras. Polls on religious affiliation vary, with some of the more recent numbers revealing between 55 and 65 percent saying they are Catholic and between 25 and 35 percent saying they are evangelical. Between 5 and 10 percent report Other or no affiliation. Thus Christianity is by far the majority and is much more visible in public places than in North America. This is evident in all parts of society and all modes of communication: buses often carry sayings like, "God is love", or "In God we Trust". It is common in everyday conversation with strangers to hear sayings such as, "thanks be to God", "if God desires it", or "God bless you," and there is a large statue of Christ on a hill overlooking the capital city of Tegucigalpa.
Moreover, as is custom throughout Central America, almost every town has a central park situated in front of the large central Catholic church of the town. Though not very diverse in its religious affiliation, the Christian church in Honduras is very diverse, with many different sets of beliefs and styles of worship and praise. The following pictures represent a variety of different styles of worship and ministries within the Catholic, Episcopal, Reformed and Evangelical churches in Honduras.
