Race is a reality that profoundly affects congregational life throughout the United States, and there is a growing desire among Christian leaders to develop a better understanding of this complex topic.

Willie Jennings’ The Christian Imagination: Theology and the Origins of Race offers a compelling and constructive perspective on race through a wide-ranging historical account of the development of the modern Christian imagination and an analysis of destructive patterns that are deeply embedded in so much of Christian theology.  This application based seminar provides an opportunity for pastors and ministry leaders to pursue a deep imaginative transformation by reading and discussing the book with the author, and reflecting on theology, race, and the practice of Christian ministry in light of the book’s themes.

This seminar is designed for full-time pastors and ministry leaders (e.g., program directors in church, parachurch, or denominational settings), and will be offered at no cost to those participants who are selected. Space is limited. All meals and lodging will be provided throughout the week, and a copy of the book will be sent two months in advance of the seminar. Participants are responsible for the cost of travel to and from the conference. 

Application Deadline is March 23, 2018. Participants will be notified of their selection by April 27.

All applicants will be required to submit a resume/CV, a letter of reference, and a 300-word essay on why you are interested in participating.
