Wendell Kimbrough is a songwriter and worship leader in southern Alabama who believes church music should simply be good music that forms us as we sing it together. Drawing on the sounds of American folk and soul music, Wendell writes scripturally-rich songs with singable, memorable melodies. His music has been embraced by a growing number of churches, young and old, large groups and small, contemporary praise bands and traditional choirs. See this conversation with John Witvliet about the Psalms.

Wendell_Kimbrough_Come_to_Me_RESIZEDCome to Me is Kimbrough's newest album. Wendell reflects, "'Come to me,' Jesus says, 'and I will give you rest.' His invitation, however, is not for just anyone; it is specifically for the weary and burdened. How crazy is it, then, that many of us leave our burdens at home and come to church with a smile painted over our pain? We crave deep rest, but instead we hide, compartmentalize, and numb. Through the Psalms, God offers us a different way. He invites us to come to him honestly, carrying the full weight of our burdened lives into his presence. Jesus wept, and if we’re awake, so do we. The collection of psalms on this record invites you and me to join Jesus in weeping for the brokenness of this beautiful world he created. As we do so, may we find the rest, hope, and courage we need to press on."
