1 Corinthians 10:1–13

Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, with spoken solos

TENOR SOLO — For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact,

ALL — brothers and sisters,

TENOR — that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.

TENOR and ALTO — They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea

ALTO — They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink;

ALTO and SOPRANO — for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them,

ALL — and that rock was Christ

BASS — Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them;

BASS and SOPRANO — their bodies were scattered [repeat in a scattered way]

SOPRANO — in the wilderness.

SOPRANO SOLO — Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.

SOPRANO — Do not be idolaters

SOPRANO SOLO — as some of them were; as it is written:

TENOR and ALTO — The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.

ALTO — We should not commit sexual immorality,

ALTO SOLO — as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.

TENOR — We should not test Christ,

TENOR SOLO — as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.

BASS — And do not grumble,

BASS SOLO — as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.

ALTO SOLO — These things happened to them as examples

ALTO — and were written down as warnings for us,

ALTO SOLO — on whom the culmination of the ages has come.

BASS SOLO — So, if you think you are standing firm,

ALL — be careful that you don’t fall!

TENOR — No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humankind.

ALL — And God is faithful;

SOPRANO and BASS — God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

SOPRANO SOLO — But when you are tempted,

ALL — God will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
The Word of the Lord!

CONGREGATION — Thanks be to God!
